Jada Pinkett Smith Breaks Down in Tears Over Her Parents' Abusive Relationship

Jada Pinkett Smith Breaks Down in Tears Over Her Parents' Abusive Relationship

"I ran to the house". Adrienne says Jada's father physically abused her and was typically drunk during the incidents, including one time when she says he threw her over a banister and left a scar on her back.

"Thank goodness I knew where I was and I knew how to get out of the auto and get to the house", Smith said, recalling that she "ran to the house" and changed into a sweatsuit.

The Gotham actress said that she stopped drinking because she was 'a violent drunk'.

She said she "used Spike as an excuse to get on that plane and [her ex-boyfriend] said right then and there, 'I'll never see you again, will I?'"

When the police arrived, Adrienne had finally realized their marriage was over.

'And I think that's what women do. "That's when I saw him". But whatever the reasons were, you have to - at the end of the day - you have to protect yourself'. "Now that I'm older, I have so much more compassion in knowing what he had gone through".

Jada started the show by revealing to her daughter, Willow Smith (18), and her mother, Adrienne - both of whom she co-hosts the show with - that she'd always known her late father, Robsol Pinkett (58), had been abusive, Entertainment Tonight reports.

Jada Pinkett Smith was armed and ready when she felt threatened. She then recalled a time she pulled a knife on an ex.

Pinkett Smith recalled that as an aha moment in which she thought, "Oh my God, I'm in trouble".

"We were coming from a restaurant and he had been drinking and he was driving and he started getting really aggressive in the vehicle", she said, before reminding Willow, "This is why I always tell you, pay attention to your surroundings just in case you have to make a quick exit".

And I remember jumping in that sweatsuit, grabbing a big old knife from the kitchen, and hiding in his son's room. Banfield-Jones had just recounted the beatings she suffered at the hands of Pinkett Smith's father. She waited for the man there until he entered the home "on the creepy creep, creep like he was going to sneak up on me".

Though the mother of Willow and Jayden Smith didn't fully explain how that unsafe night ended, she explained that director Spike Lee had a heavy hand in how the relationship ended. "That was all the sign I needed". "And we are sending you love and blessings".
