Crystal Palace ends winless streak at Burnley's expense

Crystal Palace ended its eight-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory at Selhurst Park as Burnley's unconvincing English Premier League campaign took another turn for the worse on Saturday.

Crystal Palace: The "Eagles" have no fresh injury concerns and could play the same side that claimed a creditable goalless draw with Manchester United last weekend.

The home side then took the lead, deservedly, but it came rather fortuitously.

Roy Hodgson's side were in celebratory mood at the final whistle as they sealed their first win in nine games. Zaha hit the bar and nearly everyone had a chance to put the game to bed but that elusive second just wouldn't come.

Wilfried Zaha forced a number of fine saves out of Joe Hart before hitting the woodwork, but it was not until the 77th minute that Townsend's sublime strike put Palace out of sight. "We did what we needed to do and I am delighted we won it with such a good goal", added the former England manager.

Townsend made sure of the win in spectacular fashion.

Palace skipper Luka Milivojevic wasted a great chance when the ball fell to him alone in the box but he screwed his shot wide.

"We have seen that move and shot fail to succeed many times before because the ball has either gone wide or over the crossbar or the goalkeeper has made an excellent save, but today the shot was so good Joe Hart can not be blamed in any way".

While Palace move up to 14th place with 12 points, Burnley look likely to face a long battle against the drop after enjoying a seventh-placed finish last season.

And things didn't get better after the break, with Dyche's side indebted to Hart for keeping out Zaha two minutes into the second-half - and the Ivorian fluffed his lines five minutes later, blazing over after being played in by Andros Townsend.

"It might be a case of two steps forward, and one step back, but we have to keep building and get back to having that eye of the tiger".

"We haven't lost it, but we have softened". We need to get back to a level of really strong, consistent performances.

"Usually you do that by getting back in the gym, and working hard, so that is what we are going to have to do".
