Jake Gyllenhaal announces Spider-Man role

Prior to what is thought to be the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer dropping on Saturday, Jake Gyllenhaal officially joins Instagram and teases none other than Mysterio. But now at last, it seems we have confirmation, from the horse's (evil magician's) mouth.

The Oscar nominee has given in and joined Instagram, and if his first post is any indication, we expect a ton of adorableness over the coming months.

The eight-second video shows Gyllenhaal holding up Amazing Spider-Man #311 (a classic), which featured Mysterio's return to the Wall-Crawler's life. To seal the deal, the post includes the caption "I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man".

The role will be the actor's first major part in a superhero blockbuster film. "That's what it feels like when you're working".

In the comic, Mysterio tries to convince Spidey he caused a man's death, The Hollywood Reporter reports, noting that it's unclear if this plot will carry over into the film.

In the comments section, his Spider-Man: Far From Home co-star Zendaya posted applause emoji while fellow Marvel star Mark Ruffalo wrote, "same" along with a sad face emoji. He is a special effects experts who uses his talents to commit crimes.

The film see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Jon Watts is returning to direct the sequel to Homecoming, which earned $880 million (£656,216,000) worldwide.
