CNN's NY offices given all-clear after bomb threat

CNN's NY offices given all-clear after bomb threat

This isn't the first time the building has been the target of bomb threat phone calls.

This was the third time that CNN had faced an evacuation over bomb threats.

The network said several fire alarm bells rang inside the newsroom just after 10:30 p.m. ET, just as Don Lemon's CNN Tonight was on air.

"We were evacuated in the middle of my live show", Lemon tweeted.

Police have given the all-clear after a phoned in bomb threat forced the evacuation of CNN's offices in NY.

A bomb squad, police cars and emergency vehicles were rushed to the scene.

Around midnight, CNN said police had given the all clear for people to go back into the building.

A preliminary search by security found nothing, and the NYPD was conducting a search as a precaution, the police official said.

The threat comes less than an hour after President Donald Trump tweeted about "fake news", a phrase which he has often labelled CNN with. They evacuated the studios out of caution.

The New York Police Department tweeted that they were responding to Columbus Circle, where CNN is located, and urged people to avoid the area.

In October, CNN's NY headquarters was evacuated after a package containing a crude pipe bomb, which was addressed to ex-Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief John Brennan, was found.
