House Democrat seeks emergency hearing on North Carolina election

The board could order a new election. Sources told the Post that the state GOP "did little to scrutinize the results", and focused instead on the general election. "And I call on Mark Harris to tell us exactly what he knew and when he knew it".

The head of North Carolina's Republican Party says he would "not oppose" a new election in the state's 9th Congressional District if allegations of fraud by a GOP operative prove true. Harris won 61 percent of the absentee-by-mail vote in Bladen County, even though just 19 percent of the returned and accepted ballots came from Republicans. In Bladen County, Dowless employees told local television station WSOC and BuzzFeed News that they collected absentee ballots from people and gave them to Dowless, which violates state law.

Moody led after Election Day, but Burton wiped out his lead after absentees and provisional ballots were counted. State officials plan a hearing by December 21. "Unless new evidence somehow clears the clouds hanging over this election, the Board of Elections should toss out the 9th District results".

Mark Harris now has 905 more votes than Democrat Dan McCready in the congressional race, but state officials are hesitant to certify the results after Democrats are accusing their opponents of voter fraud.

"We are not ready to call for a new election yet", Woodhouse said.

Pelosi said such a decision would be preceded by a House Administration Committee investigation. The state Elections Board, with Malcolm raising questions, did not certify the results.

At issue is who can handle completed ballots.

The NRCC's regional political director and point person for North Carolina campaigns, Tyler Foote, has since moved on to become Harris's prospective chief of staff.

"Join me in this fight for the people whose voices were taken from them", he said.

The revelations and ensuing national news coverage have put pressure on Republicans and attracted attention from top Democrats.

Dowless was hired by a consultant to work on behalf of Republican Mark Harris, who appeared to defeat Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes in the election.

Pelosi said Thursday the House "retains the right to decide who is seated".

"Any member-elect can object to the seating, the swearing in, of another member-elect and we will see how that goes", she said.

The nation's last unresolved fall congressional race with Republican Mark Harris against Democrat Dan McCready.

"There must be an investigation into the years of alleged absentee ballot fraud in Bladen County that is prompt, thorough, transparent and nonpartisan", Republican state Sen.

In North Carolina, several state Senate Republicans whose districts overlap the 9th called for further scrutiny of voting irregularities going back to 2010 and urged Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper to create a bipartisan task force - separate from the state elections board - to investigate irregularities beyond this year's election.
