It's Very Clear Redskins Lied About Why They Wouldn't Sign Colin Kaepernick

Bad news, Colin Kaepernick fans: Jay Gruden says they likely won't.

But he was the only QB the team had after Alex Smith and Colt McCoy each went down with a broken right leg in a span of three games. His camp has been actively pursuing a collusion suit against the NFL owners, alleging that Kaepernick has had work opportunities closed off to him, due to his activism on the national stage.

"Oh, he's [Kaepernick] been discussed for sure and right now at this point, we already had a workout last week for the few guys", Gruden said. "You'll be better for it; I know that for a fact, I can promise those guys that".

Gruden said the fear with Kaepernick is that the team would have to "teach a whole new offense with a lot of zone-reads".

"[There's] not a lot of time to get a brand new QB and a system installed and taught in a couple days", Gruden said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday. "He's been talked about, but we'll probably go in a different direction".

Couldn't they have just said something inane like, "We don't want him because of the controversy he brings"?

Gruden insisted it was purely a sporting decision, adding: "Just football, strictly football".

"Let's just execute, see what happens, have fun at this practice, let's go knock out this walkthrough, let's go get through this practice, let's get that lift".

But this time around, the Washington Redskins said otherwise, claiming that Kaep wouldn't fit into their scheme on short notice. Or, he said, they want someone who is similar in style to Sanchez.

Sanchez is set to start Washington's next game, which will be at home on Sunday against the New York Giants.

Now, the Redskins are once again on the market for a quarterback, needing someone to come in and backup Sanchez in case he too goes down.

O'Connell did coach in San Francisco for one season when Kaepernick played for the 49ers. Johnson hasn't appeared in an National Football League game since 2013. He said if it had been Week 1 of the season, Kaepernick would have been a better possibility of joining the team.
