Tyler Perry pays off more than $430000 in layaways ahead of Christmas

The locally based entertainment mogul announced on Twitter Thursday that he had paid off all the items on layaway at the Walmarts in Douglasville and East Point. "So I just wanted to go ahead and tell you!" Well, almost. Individuals with items on reserve in those stores can go pick them up for a single penny.

One kind gesture has inspired another as writer/director Tyler Perry followed in the footsteps of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson to pay off the layaways of complete strangers as Christmas approaches. "The heartfelt excitement and joy we're seeing from our customers as a result of his holiday gift has been touching". "I know it's hard times".

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, any items placed on layaway at the East Point and Douglasville stores before 9:30 a.m. December 6, were included in Perry's payments. "So, Merry Christmas to everybody".

"Merry Christmas, everybody, you have to go into the Walmart and get your layaway, pay a penny - one penny - and you get your layaway", he grinned.

In recent weeks, anonymous good Samaritans have paid off all layaway items in four Walmart stores in different parts of the country - a total of more than $130,000.

The Madea's Family Reunion actor explained how he knows the struggle at this time of year and is just grateful to be able to help out.
