CS:GO Adds Battle Royale Mode; Goes Free-To-Play

Yes, you read that right! This battle royale mode revolves around a tablet that characters can use, seeing a visual representation of where the Danger Zone is closing in as the match progresses.

Counter-Strike: GO is still the preeminent shooter game when it comes to competitive play and esports. "When you have Prime Status you are matched with other players who also have Prime Status, and Prime users are eligible for Prime-exclusive souvenir items, item drops, and weapon cases".

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is officially free to play. That upgrade will take place whether or not you've previously gone Prime, as long as you owned the game before today - notably, this applies even if you haven't applied a phone number to your account.

Global Offensive is now completely free to play on Steam.

News about a potential battle royale mode arriving in Counter-Strike: GO surfaced earlier this year, though the company didn't confirm the speculation.

Drones will drop off guns you buy mid-game, which could offer an interesting tactical choice or two when those same drones could reveal your position to your opponents. Expect weapons to have the same properties as they do in the core game, with looting being a big focus of "Danger Zone". CS:GO does have its exclusively first-person perspective going for it, at least.

Unlike Fortnite and PUBG though, Danger zone will be limited to just 18 players.

If players queue as a solo player, they'll enter a 16 player match.

Players will be able to team up in duos or trios, or can just play by themselves. There will also be missions within the game, like finding hostages or completing contract kills, to unlock extra cash and weapons options. For more information on Danger Zone, check out Valve's announcement.

Each Danger Zone match includes pistols, rifles, SMGs and heavy weapons featured in the CS:GO's classic arsenal.
