‘Kedarnath’ screening banned across Uttarakhand, says state tourism minister

Dehradun, Uttarakhand: After the Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput film Kedarnath was banned in several Uttarakhand districts, a state minister said the government would henceforth consider reviewing a movie's script before granting it permission to shoot. There has been much hype around the film as it is Sara's debut, and the starlet has quite an astounding fan-following, even before her debut film had released. The court told Bharti to raise its objections with Maharaj's committee. "We asked district magistrates to maintain peace [and] everyone has decided that Kedarnath movie should be banned".

The High Court on Thursday dismissed the plea of petitioner Darshan Bharti, who claimed the movie has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. The petitioner said the movie promoted "love jihad", reported IANS.

In Kedarnath, Tarun plays a role of a pithu leader (people who carry pilgrims on their back), who fulfils the demands of pithus. Gujarat High Court called the petition a publicity stunt and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the petitioner Prakash Rajput, president of International Hindu Sena.

While there has been no official ban on the film by the state government, it has written to all district magistrates (DMs) about the film and the controversies surrounding it. The Censor board opposed the allegations in which they said that the movie is an imaginary story between a Muslim boy and a Brahmin girl. "The state shall ensure law and order is maintained".

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kedarnath which is set against the backdrop of the devastating 2013 Uttarakhand flood, has been released nationwide on Friday.
