Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds is an amazing-looking space-based Fallout game

As mentioned, Obsidian Entertainment will be there to show off their latest title, but there's also plenty to come from more publishers and developers. In the years since, it's been rumored that Obsidian might release a New Vegas follow-up (New Orleans has been a frequently-rumored location for that apparently non-existent game), but despite all that rumormongering, nothing's happened. Though numerous games revealed at the event were smaller indie titles or "AA" games, they made up for their lower budgets with unique settings, intriguing gameplay mechanics, and pure passion on the part of the developers speaking about them.

The game is set on a colonised planet far out in the galaxy.

The game is not an open-world RPG, but rather a series of interconnected, smaller worlds and locations. Tonight at The Game Awards 2018, Obsidian finally unveiled the project, The Outer Worlds, which sees original Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky at the helm.

The Outer Worlds will be out in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

In it, you play as a colonist taking on megacorps... or not.

With a retro-sci-fi vibe and a wonderful Western colour palette, The Outer Worlds looks to continue Obsidian's strong tradition of delivering dense RPGs.

Geoff Keighley and Obsidian teased the game's announcement last week with the tagline, "Worlds Will Change". Will you be getting this when it launches next year?

For now, you can keep track of the game's progress by checking out its dedicated Steam store page.
