Acer's New Gaming Laptop Comes With a Crazy Hinge

At CES 2019 Acer revealed more details on their Predator Triton line of gaming laptops, and one of them comes packed with a pretty weird looking hinge.

Both gaming notebooks come with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 GPU which features latest-gen real-time ray tracing capabilities, as well as ultra-fast GDDR6 memory.

The Predator Triton 900 and 500 both earn their gaming cred with Acer's advanced cooling system that includes 4th Gen AeroBlade™ 3D metal fans that increase airflow by 45 percent, and Coolboost™ technology that keeps the notebooks cool during extended gaming sessions and while playing demanding AAA titles.

It also offers gamers "multiple gaming scenarios and better ergonomics", according to Acer marketing manager Belinda Marais.

Coming in a more tradition notebook form factor, the Predator Triton 500 is a relatively slim laptop at 0.7 inches thick and weighing in at 4.6 pounds. That display can be flipped around to cover the keyboard, making this not just a gaming laptop but a convertible laptop. Acer Predator TriTon 500: Price, specs and availability It features a 15.6-inch full HD display with 81% screen-to-body ratio.

On the inside, the Predator Triton 900 comes with Intel's 8th-gen Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and 1TB SSD storage.

This might sound like odd design for a gaming machine, but Acer wants users - non-gaming users - to take advatange of the processing power and touchscreen. Acer is also included in Xbox wireless receiver allowing you to connect Xbox One controller should you wish. For the fully loaded configuration, a Triton 500 will go for around $2,999.

The Triton 500 features a 15.6-inch IPS display with a 144Hz refresh rate and starts at a much more manageable $1799 price tag.

The Acer Predator Triton 500 will be available in the United States and Europe in February, starting at $1,799 (€1,999, AU$2,540). Acer intends to release a smartphone app that it is calling PredatorSense later this year, which will make it possible for you to adjust the lights, audio, and fans on the system.

The Acer Predator Triton 900 will be available in the U.S. and Europe in March, starting at $3,999 (€4,199, about AU$5,650).
