Kevin Hart Shuts Down Questions About Oscars Controversy: 'I'm Over It'

Kevin Hart Shuts Down Questions About Oscars Controversy: 'I'm Over It'

With the 91st Academy Awards still now without a host, many people were wondering if Kevin Hart was willing to re-accept their offer after all the controversy that ensued.

The 39-year-old actor was scheduled to host the February 24 awards show but backed down after a series of anti-gay tweets - from between 2009 and 2011 - resurfaced and drew outrage from the LGBT community. I'm not hosting the Oscars this year.

Sources with "inside knowledge of the plans" for the 2019 Oscars have noted that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences doesn't intend to select a host to lead the ceremony.

This week, Kevin Hart went to his "Straight From the Hart" SiriusXM broadcast to apologize to the LGBTQ community for his past anti-gay tweets.

According to Variety, the Oscars will take on a new format, with producers set to delegate the role of emcee to a selection of A-listers who will introduce various segments. "I have explained how I evolved, which makes me say: 'I'm over it, '" said Hart. "We are a huge group of people who love you and want you to host the Oscars".

The "Deal or No Deal" host pointed out how even stars that did a great job (shoutout Ellen DeGeneres and Jimmy Kimmel!) still received negative backlash.

The comedian also said he used hurtful language because he didn't know any better.

Speaking with Strahan Wednesday about potentially hosting the Oscars in the future, Hart said, "if it does [happen], it does, but it's not the conversation of today". 30 years ago in 1989, the show had no host, instead opting to open with an 11-minute monologue in which actor Rob Lowe sings "Proud Mary" with Snow White. "The moment came and it was a blessing and I was excited at the opportunity and I still am".

He added: "Like I apologized". The reason I chose to pass is because I've addressed this several times, this is not the first time this has come up, I've addressed this. Hart's appearance on the show only furthered the controversy for the actor and for DeGeneres. She told Kevin, "You are apologising again right now". You've done it. Don't let those people win.
