President Trump Just Cancelled His Trip to Davos Because of the Shutdown

Currently, the president is visiting the border to drum up support for his demand for funds to build a wall along the southern United States border with Mexico.

President Donald Trump announced he will not be attending this year's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He said he will not attending because Democrats will not budge on border security, thus continuing the government shutdown.

The partial government shutdown is in its third week with no sign of a truce looming as the Trump administration and the Democratic-led House battle over border security funding.

It was unclear whether the partial government shutdown, now in its 20th day, would end before the start of the global economic meeting, which is scheduled for January 22 to January 25, as Trump and congressional Democrats dug into a fight over funding for the government and Trump's long-promised wall along the U.S. -Mexico border.

"I meant to go and speak in front of the global community in Davos".

The Davos conference is scheduled to start on January 22, so Trump's announcement means the current government shutdown may continue to that date and beyond. It's been very successful when I went. "We have a great story to tell", Trump told reporters before leaving the White House to visit Texas.

China's Vice President Wang Qishan was expected to attend the Swiss meeting, but it was unclear whether any talks had been planned between him and Trump.

Trump traveled to Davos in 2018, delivering a speech on the restored American economy.
