Cesc Fabregas completes move to Monaco from Chelsea

He has subsequently been allowed to reunite with former teammate Thierry Henry in Ligue 1.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev told his club's official website: "We are very pleased to welcome to AS Monaco Cesc Fabregas, a world-class player and a great professional, whose arrival demonstrates the ambition of the club".

"I am looking forward to starting, we have a big game against Marseille on Sunday".

But he was not a regular this season for the English Premier League side under its new Italian coach Maurizio Sarri.

The 31-year-old signed a three-and-a-half-year-deal with the French club.

The Spaniard has called time on a four-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge, which saw the midfielder win two Premier League titles, as well as one FA Cup and one League Cup.

Fabregas will be required to make an immediate impact for Henry's men, who now languish second from bottom of the Ligue 1 table and face the threat of relegation.

Key to the move was the fact that Monaco are now coached by Fabregas' former Gunners teammate Henry, with whom he won the Premier League in 2004.

Fabregas arrived at Stamford Bridge as a 2012 European Championship and 2010 World Cup victor with Spain.

Veteran defender Naldo was the first to join from German club Schalke 04, and on Thursday Monaco announced the signing of France under-21 left-back Fode Ballo-Toure from Lille for 11 million euros plus bonuses.

But a move for midfielder William Vainqueur from Turkish club Antalyaspor fell through, after he failed a medical due to a calf problem.
