Google Assistant can now translate conversations in over 20 languages: Here's more

The company also announced that future update to the Google Assistant will enable consumers to do flight check-in with just voice commands. For example, you can say "Hey Google, take me home", to open Google Maps and get directions for your commute.

Discussing the new feature, Google said: "Speaking a different language no longer has to be a barrier to having a good conversation". Well, we're not quite sure whether this is a feature a person in a home setting would use quite often, the hotel industry clearly falls into Google's target demographic. At CES it announced support for more smart home devices later this year, included appliances, security systems and other connected devices.

CES has become an important staging ground for Google as it pushes its hardware products to compete with gear from the likes of Amazon, Apple and Samsung.

Google stated the feature will arrive on Google Home devices "over the next few weeks".

For those traveling outside of their language comfort zones, Google Assistant can help remove barriers to communication. Active users have quadrupled in size during the a year ago, according to the company. The Assistant also tracks the traveler's itinerary through applications such as Google Keep, Any.do, Bring! and Todoist.

The Google Assistant will also soon be compatible with auto accessories that let you control your car's music or diagnostics simply by plugging a device into a socket-keep yours eyes on Anker and JBL.

Many consumers now own more than one smart-speaker device. In the coming months, customers will be able to use the DISH voice remote to ask the Assistant to control smart home devices, provide weather and news updates, display photos and more. By just asking Google to be your interpreter, the device will translate foreign spoken language in real-time into your native language either vocally or in written language.

Google Assistant sort of stole the show this year in Las Vegas - though it also did this last year.

Lenovo also introduced an Assistant-powered Smart Clock, which, while its features are limited, can draw on information in users' calendars and has other smart features. Amazon's share will continue to shrink through 2020.
