Nurse causes 'catastrophic injury to baby during delivery'

Dr Sankhla said he realised there was something "horribly wrong" when he attempted to remove the placenta, who then referred her to the Ummed Hospital in Jodhpur'.

The two nurses have been suspended and an investigation is underway.

ANI quoted Dr Sankhla from Jaisalmer's Jawahar Hospital as saying that: "The reports from the Ramgarh health centre stated that delivery had been done".

The baby's father, alleged that staff at the community health centre in Jaisalmer's Ramgarh didn't inform him about the botch-up.

The nurse was allegedly left holding the baby's torso while its decapitated head was left inside the mum's body in the reported horrific incident on January 6.

The body separated from the head, which was still inside the mother's womb.

The man in charge of the heath centre in Ramgargh, Dr Nikhil Sharma, said he wasn't present at the time of the incident.

A nurse at a government hospital in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan has been accused of decapitating a baby during a hard delivery, local media reported. She was then sent to Jodhpur in a serious condition.

An Indian nurse allegedly tore the head off an unborn foetus while in the delivery room. They then informed his family to take the woman, Dikhsha Kanwar, to another hospital in the city of Jaisalmer, without informing them of what happened.

They hid the body of the baby and handed it over only after a police complaint was registered by the family.

After she was transferred, doctors performed the operation during which they found the baby's head in the womb and informed the woman's family. Since the gynaecologist was on leave, the nursing staff handled the case. "It was a pre-term baby", he added.
