Sheriff: Helicopter blade kills man at Brooksville airport Yesterday

A man was decapitated in a helicopter accident at a Florida airport Thursday, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office identified the victim as 62-year-old Salvatore Disi.

He said Disi "had an interaction" with the aircraft and "died nearly immediately, if not immediately".

The incident was reported at about 3:35 p.m. near the hangars of the airport at 16308 Flight Path Drive, Nienhuis said.

It is being treated as a tragic accident, and foul play is not suspected.

In a call to police, an individual on the scene explained he and the victim were trying to jump start a helicopter using a power cart prior to the accident. A caller told 911 that he and Disi were working on the helicopter and using a power vehicle to jumpstart it.

"Obviously, a death that is a little unusual.and we want to make sure we have all the answers, Nienhuis said".

Following a request from the airport, the Medical Examiner's Office in Leesburg collected the body from the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.

This is the helicopter which decapitated maintenance worker Alfred DiSi Thursday afternoon.

Other agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration are also being informed, the sheriff said. The sheriff said it did not take place near the runways and air traffic was not affected.
