Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller banned for both games

Bayern Munich will be without Thomas Muller for both legs of their Champions League last 16 tie against Liverpool after the German was handed a two-match suspension.

Muller was shown a straight red card - the first of his career - after catching Tagliafico with a head-high challenge.

The Germany worldwide was sent off in Bayern's final Group E game - a 3-3 draw at Ajax last month - after a unsafe high challenge on Nicolas Tagliafico, which saw him catch his opponent with a boot to the head.

Maximilian Woeber also misses the round of 16 games for Ajax against Real Madrid for his red card in a separate incident during the draw with Bayern.

The German global midfielder will play no part in the heavyweight last-16 encounter with Liverpool though he is expected to appeal.

Bayern will travel to Anfield for the first leg against Liverpool on February 19, with the Premier League leaders coming to the Allianz Arena on March 13. It was unintentional. Get well soon'.

UEFA have also banned Croatia defender Dejan Lovren for one worldwide match over comments he made on social media about opponents Spain following his side's 3-2 Nations League win in November.

Thomas Muller might be powerless to block Liverpool's UEFA Champions League progress. He also told reporters after the match that Spain were "rude on the pitch" and bad losers.
