Justin Langer Has Instant Regret After Snapping During Press Conference

Maxwell had earlier stated that he had offers to play the county cricket previous year too but did not take part in them because of the message that was seemingly conveyed to him by the board.

In September previous year, Maxwell had said he felt "a little bit" misled after being overlooked for the two-Test series against Pakistan in the UAE having rejected an offer to play county cricket and missed the Australia A tour of India to remain fresh. He added Maxwell was "content" to focus on white-ball cricket ahead of the World Cup, but acknowledged he still had a strong desire to add to his seven Test caps.

Langer, arguably showing the strain of a taxing month in which he and his team had received widespread criticism on a range of issues, asked the reporter twice "are you certain that's what happened?" regarding the county directive.

"So, I've taken it out of their hands and signed with a County early so at least I can give myself some sort of red-ball cricket and some sort of longer-form experience, because for a player who's played as long as I have I certainly haven't played the amount of first-class cricket as everyone else has".

"I've certainly made it clear that I wouldn't have gone to England this year if I wasn't still trying to play Test cricket", Maxwell told The Unplayable Podcast.

"Glenn is crystal clear from me and the selectors what he needs to do to get back in the Test team", Langer said. Sorry for getting grumpy. "I don't like getting grumpy but there's so many stories that go around about so much stuff", Langer said.

"Sorry for getting grumpy, too. I didn't mean to get grumpy, but the truth is a lovely thing".

Cricket Australia National Selector Trevor Hohns has defended the decision to omit Glenn Maxwell from the Test squad. "He has shown he is brilliant around the group in white-ball cricket". There's been some reports about (his) personality. that is literally false. "He is crystal clear", Langer said.

"All the conjecture about it, that's all part of the noise".

Glenn Maxwell reacts after scoring a double century against NSW last summer.

Such emails were a common part of discussions with players, according to CA, but in no way inferred guarantee of selection.

Selection has been a key debate through the Australian season with the absence of David Warner and Steven Smith leaving a threadbare Test batting order.

India beat Australia 2-1 to clinch the Test series creating history. There have also been considerable changes to the one-day team that will face India. When the reporter put up a question relating some mistruths about Maxwell's exclusion from recent Tests against India, Langer lost his cool.
