Klopp discusses Fabinho's ability to play as a centre-back

Croatian centre back Dejan Lovren picked up a muscle injury early in Monday's FA Cup third round defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers to add to the absence of two other central defenders Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Joel Matip has returned to training but ruled Dejan Lovren out of Liverpool's clash with Brighton.

"But if you're talking about an influence on our game and the history they have, then of course they've done it for a longer time and he hasn't". "It's not cool in this moment but in two weeks it will probably be okay", he said.

"Virgil has outstanding potential", Klopp told a news conference.

'If you are a holding 6 or a centre-half with the ball it is easier'.

The league-leading Reds won seven games from seven for the month as they built a seven-point advantage over champions Manchester City at the end of the calendar year.

Klopp said he welcomed the extra training time the break would allow, but admitted his preference would have been for Liverpool to still be in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. "He is a fantastic person, he is physically strong and he has all the technical things you need. That is possible. We have to use the time and understand the challenge right", he said.

"Each game felt like the most important one of the season". "That's my preferred rhythm, to be honest. It was unbelievable. The intensity was massive but that's what made it a special month".

"Pep said he would prefer to be in all four competitions and I'd prefer the same. We speak in the week, but try to not make it more complicated than it is".
