ODI ban recommended for Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul over controversial comments

ODI ban recommended for Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul over controversial comments

Rahul, who was more restrained of the 2 during the show, has not yet reacted to the backlash the 2 are facing on social media. "Upon realisation of my mistake I have also issued a public apology on my official social media handles this morning, prior to receiving the Notice", he said. "As far as I am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable", Mr. Rai said.

The 25-year-old later said he got carried away by the "nature of the show" and is now busy drafting a response to the BCCI show cause notice.

According to a latest report in Hindustan Times, BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry has said that the apology from Pandya is insincere and he has requested for the entire team to go through a sensitization process. Appearing on "Koffee with Karan", hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, with teammate K L Rahul, Pandya's apparent loose talk on women and his sexuality took many by surprise.

On the initiation of Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai, some sort of consensus has been arrived at with all of them saying there should be a two-match ban with immediate effect, pending an inquiry. He has also spoken to his elder brother Krunal Pandya and family members but there is no information if he tried to call up the CoA members who are actually not convinced by his reply.

However, one of the BCCI officials feels that the apology tweet won't do anything great for Hardik Pandya.

The BCCI were not happy about the comments, which were slammed on social media, and issued a show cause notice to the pair for bringing the Indian cricket team into disrepute. He took to Instagram to write that he had got "carried away" during the chat show. The two players were given 24 hours by the BCCI to explain themselves.

"The other day, at a party, my parents asked me 'tera wala kaun kaun hai'(which are the women you've been with?) I sat with them and said (makes pointing gestures) yeh, yeh, yeh sabke saath kuch raha hai mera (this one, this one and this one - I've had something with all of them) and they were like waah proud of you beta". "Doesn't appear honest. I am inclined to suggest a penalty", Rai wrote stating that the seriousness of the comments of Rahul and Pandya are different and the quantum of punishment could be different. "Could be different for both players depending on what they said on the show".

According to a source, his comments were deemed "crass and cringeworthy" and might have a bearing on whether Indian cricketers appear on "such non-cricket shows" after this.
