Teenager crashes into auto while trying Bird Box blindfold challenge

"Apparently, as a part of this 'Bird Box Challenge, ' (the driver) used her beanie to pull over her eyes as she was driving on Layton Parkway, and she ended up losing control of her vehicle and skidded into the westbound lanes of Layton Parkway and hit another auto and ended up hitting a light pole as well".

Police say the latest viral challenge is responsible for a crash on a street in Utah.

The Layton Police Department tweeted two photos of the crash, which they said occurred Monday.

After getting some additional information about the crash, police re-interviewed the teens a few days later, which was when they revealed the crash had been caused by the "Bird Box" Challenge.

The streamer previously issued a warning against participating in the "Bird Box Challenge", which involves performing often unsafe stunts while blindfolded.

"Honestly I'm nearly embarrassed to have to say "Don't drive with your eyes covered" but you know apparently we do have to say that", Lyman said.

Based on the hit Netflix horror starring Sandra Bullock, the social media challenge involves participants taking part in tasks while wearing a blindfold, emulating characters in the film who must evade sight-targeting monsters. "It really puts everybody at risk".

Lyman said police have requested the teen driver be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving.
