Star Of The Upcoming "The Sopranos" Prequel Reveals Details

Star Of The Upcoming

Alessandro Nivola talked to The Associated Press about the project on the red carpet Wednesday before a panel discussion led by creator David Chase to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Sopranos in NY. All the way to the 1960's when the upcoming Soprano's prequel, The Many Saints of Newark, will take place.

The David Chase-created crime drama revolved around anxiety-filled mobster Tony Soprano, played by the late James Gandolfini.

Nivola said Dickie Moltisani, whom he plays will be "the central character", and that the title references the name Moltisani, which means "many saints" in Italian.

The film begins in 1967 with the backdrop of the race riots that tore through Newark, New Jersey.

Dickie loomed large in name only in the original series as he was a mentor to Tony but also a father to Christopher Moltisanti, who ultimately ends up as Tony's right hand throughout much of the series. But before we get to the pull-quote that's got everyone arching their eyebrows, I'd like to go on record with the following opinion: the ending of The Sopranos can not be "solved", should not be "solved", and was pretty much designed from the ground up to be open to interpretation. Nivola said racial tension is "a big part of the story".

"Dickie, as he's mentioned throughout the "Sopranos" series, was an important figure in Tony's life", Nivola said.

Are you excited for more The Many Saints of Newark? "I remember watching it with my own family and my brothers, sisters in Brooklyn, and as soon as it ended they were like, 'What the f**k was that?' and I was like, 'I gotta go, sorry!'" Even after talking to Chase, Seitz and Sepinwall are still arguing about it.

Speaking to Variety, she said: "It feels very weird". "I just, people want to know, I have no idea".

As for what actually happened, Winter notes, "Maybe it happened that night and maybe it doesn't, but it doesn't really matter". I tell them I don't know. However, aside from Nivola, there has been no other casting news about the movie.
