Robertson: Salah diving claims 'a bit of desperation'

The Egypt star was similarly criticised following Liverpool's thrashing of Arsenal last month.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge missed the team's 1-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion with a virus, according to Melissa Reddy.

Robertson backed his team-mate and said the constant questions surrounding Salah were unfair.

'I was at the edge of the box (against Brighton) and it was a stonewaller.

Rio Ferdinand hit the headlines for his controversial comments about Newcastle United on Saturday evening but lost amongst it all was his suggestion to Jurgen Klopp as to how Liverpool can win the Premier League.

A Mohamed Salah penalty in the second half was enough for the Reds as they extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points.

"I've not seen this Brighton one back but it's a no-brainer really for the referee".

"I can't believe that a manager who's going in on a big game - I don't know Liverpool's next big game - but who goes into a big game will not remind coaches, or won't say publicly, I'm a little concerned how easily Mo Salah is going to ground these days - particularly in the penalty area".

Having started in 20 of the 21 games he's been in the Premier League matchday squad, Robertson needs to be handed a rest at some point by Klopp, if Liverpool venture into the latter stages of the Champions League again, but he is most certainly one of Liverpool's unsung heroes and can become a club great if he continues on his current path.

"When we played them at home we weren't at our best and they probably had a few more chances and we won 1-0".

"So there will be games over the season and whoever does that will probably have three or four games to look back on and if we manage to do it, I'm sure we'll look back on this game as one of them".
