Bulls trade Parker to Wizards for Porter

But following a season-ending injury to Wall this year, and with any hopes of making a playoff run quickly dissipating, this was as good of a time as any for Washington to make a move.

Also Wednesday, the Wizards agreed to send forward Markieff Morris to the New Orleans Pelicans for forward Wesley Johnson, league sources told Wojnarowski.

The 23-year-old Parker struggled to find a role with the Bulls after signing a two-year, $40 million deal with the team in the offseason.

Porter had joined Wall and shooting guard Bradley Beal to form a young nucleus of lottery draft picks the Wizards were trying to build around.

All three have big contracts. He has been in and out of Washington's starting lineup. The Wizards held onto Porter in 2017 by matching a $106.5 million, four-year, max-contract offer he had signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

The 25-year-old Porter was selected third overall by the Wizards in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Washington has clearly made a U-turn from their initial trade deadline plans of holding onto Porter Jr., likely triggered by the news of John Wall rupturing his Achilles and need 11-15 months of recovery.

Sure, they have to pay somebody, and a healthy Porter bolsters their rotation, but at a price tag north of $27 million for next season and close to $28.5 million for 2020-21, the Bulls are essentially just committing to eating someone else's bad money as they openly tank.

He averaged 14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in 39 games (17 starts) with the Bulls, but he spent substantial time on the bench in recent weeks as the team turned to more developmental prospects instead. Not long after Hoiberg was sacked and the newly promoted Jim Boylen took over on December 3, Parker fell out of the rotation altogether. "Not bitter. It's just the business and what they're trying to accomplish. Right now, I've got a better opportunity".

Portis is only 23 and in his fourth National Basketball Association season but had taken on a distinct leadership role with the Bulls.
