One case of measles confirmed in Bell County

Anyone born since 1978 who is unsure if they have received two doses of a measles containing vaccine, such as MMR, should speak with their GP.

East Wenatchee - Although Chelan and Douglas Counties do not now have a confirmed case of measles, public health officials are working closely with school districts and healthcare providers throughout Chelan and Douglas County to ensure students and staff are up-to-date on their vaccines. The Pacific Northwest outbreak includes one confirmed case in King County, where Seattle is located, and four in Multnomah County, which includes Portland, Oregon.

These new Multnomah County cases are linked to the Clark County outbreak.

The CDC said that at least eight other states have reported cases of the measles in 2019: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Oregon.

According to the Mayo Clinic, people who are unvaccinated, travel to developing countries or have a vitamin A deficiency are more likely to catch the measles. That includes attending church by video feed and working with employers. As a highly contagious infection, measles can live in an airspace where an infected person was for up to two hours.

Infectious people were at Costco, the airport, a Blazers game and other sites.

Statewide in Washington, orders for measles vaccine jumped about 30 percent, climbing from 12,140 doses to 15,780 doses, figures showed.

The health department is identifying and contacting people who may have been exposed.

Multnomah County officials have reported a steep uptick in vaccinations over this time previous year. "It's a very serious disease that can be prevented by vaccination".

Rita Espinoza, the chief epidemiologist at Metro Health, said health care providers, emergency rooms and school districts are among those that need to remain vigilant, even though Bexar County has not seen a case of measles since 2007.
