Rob Kearney and Quinn Roux set to face Scotland

Stalwart full-back Kearney has been restored to the No 15 shirt for Saturday's Murrayfield encounter, with the 32-year-old still easing back to full sharpness after a thigh injury.

In other changes to the pack, Jack Conan comes in for the injured CJ Stander at No 8, with openside flank Sean O'Brien taking the place of Josh van der Flier, who moves to the bench.

The half-backs remain unchanged but Robbie Henshaw, who was expected to partner Bundee Aki in midfield, has been ruled out with a late injury so Chris Farrell comes in at 13.

We're just going to have to forge ahead. 'It's just a bit of aggravation after having a knock.

"But it's an exciting opportunity to play Chris Farrell against Scotland".

'It does make it hard; the problem is he maybe could have played, but if you get another bump on it, it debilitates you quickly, and then you have to make another change'.

"At the same time, you've got Chris Farrell waiting in the wings, massively motivated". He only got one Championship match a year ago and he's coming back into form.

Against England, Henshaw was handed a first start at full back since 2013, and was caught out positionally a number of times on a hard evening for the Leinster player. "We didn't have the cohesion we would like to have had last weekend".

"Quinn will share the lineout calling, probably with Pete (Peter O'Mahony)", explained Schmidt. "I do think we had a few exhausted bodies coming in (to the Championship), a few guys who hadn't played a lot and it is hard to hit the ground running".
