Chucky is Back as the First Trailer for 'Child's Play' Reboot Drops

Chucky is Back as the First Trailer for 'Child's Play' Reboot Drops

While the original franchise is still ongoing, MGM owns the rights to the first Child's Play movie and has chose to release a remake.

This particular Child's Play is not a part of the original franchise from Chucky's original creator, writer-director Don Mancini.

To build even more suspense, the franchise launched a cartoon-centric creepy toy website and blood-soaked holiday e-cards and wallpapers.

Though we don't get a good look at the titular doll, we do see some of his handiwork at play. The trailer opens with a commercial for the Kaslan Corporation's latest model of the Buddi doll, a technically advanced AI reboot of Chucky. That show, which is coming to Syfy in the USA, will continue the story that began in the 1988 film and went through six sequels.

But while the TV series is the Chucky project with the returning players, it must be said that the Child's Play reboot has some notable cast members, too, including Aubrey Plaza as the next Karen Barclay and Brian Tyree Henry as Detective Mike Norris.

Last year, both Mancini and longtime franchise producer David Kirschner declined to serve as executive producers for the theatrical remake, with Mancini contending that it would "muddy" the franchise he's still building.

The film will hit theaters on June 21st, 2019.
