Netflix Brings 'Smart Download' Feature for iOS Users

Netflix Brings 'Smart Download' Feature for iOS Users

Netflix is bringing smart downloads to its iOS app: The streaming service's iPhone and iPad apps will now automatically download the next episode of a show when users have finished watching a downloaded episode.

The feature deletes a downloaded episode when a user finishes watching and then automatically downloads the next episode.

Netflix also pointed out that while most of its viewers stream at home, it also wanted to expand its market by allowing mobile users easy access to their roster of videos through the offline playback feature. Of course, if you happen to download every episode of a series at once, the app will not delete or replace any of them once watched.

The feature is enabled by default, but can be turned off in your App Settings. To learn how, and for more information on Smart Downloads, you can visit the Netflix Help Center by clicking on this link.

The feature has been available on the Android version of Netflix since the middle of previous year.

Scroll down and select App Settings.

While connected to the Wi-Fi, the opt-in feature now works on Android, Windows 10 ond iOS devices.

Under the Downloads heading, use the toggle to turn Smart Downloads on or off. Once it's updated, open the app and go to My Downloads section.

The company says that this feature will improve the viewing experience for the users by making it easier for them to take their favourite Netflix shows and movies with them. From today, Netflix Subscribers who use iOS can download Netflix episodes to their phone in much the same way podcasts work. In a statement to The Los Angeles Times, the company confirmed it was testing the feature.

"The faster our members can get to the next episode of their favorite stories, the better", said Netflix.
