Dua Lipa wins Best New Artist at 2019 Grammy Awards

Dua Lipa wins Best New Artist at 2019 Grammy Awards

In her speech, Lipa said, "I am honored to be nominated alongside so many female artists this year - I guess we stepped up".

Dua Lipa and St. Vincent mirror each other during their performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The unlikely duo brought their star power together to do a mashup of Aretha Franklin's "R-E-S-P-E-C-T", St. Vincent's "Masseduction", and Dua Lipa's "One Kiss".

Lipa beat out Greta Van Fleet, Luke Combs, Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., Margo Price, Bebe Rexha, and Jorja Smith for the Best New Artist accolade.

Dua Lipa threw subtle shade at the president of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, after he said women needed to "step up" to get recognition.

It was a big night for Dua, who also took home Best Dance Recording for Electricity, her collaboration with Diplo and Mark Ronson.

Lipa continued, "For anyone who hasn't realized how special they are to have a different story or background, just know that no matter where you're from, never let that get in the way of your dreams".
