Eddie Jones talks up 'greatest Welsh side ever'

In a contest which was widely billed as a title decider following impressive wins for both sides in the opening round of fixtures, England raced into a 24-0 lead at half-time and survived a brief French rally to run out comfortable winners.

When centre Henry Slade ended the first half by scoring England's fourth try, Jones' men - who are now two points clear of Wales - had a bonus-point score with 40 minutes still to play.

It was Wales' 11th successive victory, matching their record winning streak set between 1907 and 1910.

England coach Eddie Jones says his team will have to be at its "absolute best" to beat Wales in Cardiff on 23 February.

'A lot of people will write us off, which is a good position to be in, ' Gatland said. "Preparation starts on Wednesday".

'We're playing the greatest Welsh side ever, ' he said after his side thrashed France.

"He's been at the top of the tree in European rugby for the last 15 years, through his club and country and the (British and Irish) Lions", the Australian added. Come and referee a game yourself then you can let us all judge you then.

"It is a hard game when you get points in front because you can get seduced by the scoreboard and you start doing things you wouldn't normally, but we kept our discipline and stuck to the game plan", added the 59-year-old Australian.

England were 30-8 up at half-time, which meant the game was over even before a penalty try and a score from Owen Farrell in the second period. "But we just had a quick chat in the room there and we felt we probably left 15 to 20 points on the field".

The Leicester flyer has now scored 22 tries in 42 Tests and Jones said: "Jonny May is one of the hardest working guys in our team".

France head coach Jacques Brunel said: "Obviously I'm very, very disappointed".

"We were really under pressure from the English side, especially from their kicking game and we were not able to overcome that".
