Toronto Raptors: Jeremy Lin brings much needed experience, depth off bench

Appearing in 51 games for Atlanta this season, the 30-year-old is averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per contest, shooting 33.3 per cent from three-point range while playing 19.7 minutes a game.

Lin gives the Raptors obvious depth at both guard spots, and will likely - once he clears waivers and joins Toronto - spend time backing up point guard Kyle Lowry and shooting guard Danny Green.

Lin was enjoying a dazzling breakout season in NY in 2011-12 when he brought his "Linsanity" road show to Toronto, draining a three-point dagger at the buzzer to lift the Knicks 90-87 over the Raptors. Lin has never advanced beyond the first round of the playoffs.

Raptors center Marc Gasol scored 16 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, in his home debut after being acquired in last Thursday's trade with Memphis. Before the game, the Raptors said VanVleet will miss at least three weeks because of a ligament inury in his left thumb. Coach Kenny Atkinson said Carroll should return Wednesday at Cleveland.

On top of that, the Raptors get a marketable player as Linsanity is a big draw like he was with the New York Knicks.

Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was not available. Much better defender than people think. He's an elite competitor. He has been part of three previous playoff runs, in 2013 and 2014 with Houston and in 2016 with Charlotte.
