Dua Lipa's Powerful Best New Artist Acceptance Speech Cut Off During Grammys

Dua Lipa's Powerful Best New Artist Acceptance Speech Cut Off During Grammys

Another breakout music artist with Albanian roots, Bebe Rexha, was nominated for two Grammys on Sunday, the first in the "Best New Artist" category beside Lipa and the second in the "Country Duo/Group Performance" category for her collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, 'Meant to Be'. While Dua Lipa may not feel super new to us (I'm sorry, where was her Grammy for "IDGAF"?!), she's technically a new artist.

"No matter where you are from, or your background, or what you believe in, never let that get in the way of you and your dreams, because you deserve it", she said on stage.

Her friends and family cheered on the star as she shouted and danced upon hearing the impressive news. She added: "I guess this year we've really stepped up". "I think it takes two to tango in that", Musgraves said backstage.

"I know i'm not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things. but f**k. this is wild and handsome. thank you so much".

Dua Lipa's 2019 Grammys is already off to a bangin' start!

It's unfortunate that Lipa wasn't given time to finish her speech, but Lipa continued the discussion she opened at Grammy press rooms after the ceremony was over.

"Being in the New Artist category and having so many female artists nominated is a big change".

Correction: A previous version of this article introduced Dua Lipa as "Prishtina-born". "Please know that my commitment to all the good that we do will carry on as we turn the page on the next chapter of the storied history of this phenomenal institution". The speech he made on Sunday will be his last as the Grammys CEO and President.
