Meghan Markle: George Clooney compares Duchess frenzy to Princess Diana

Meghan Markle: George Clooney compares Duchess frenzy to Princess Diana

Diana was killed in a auto accident in 1997 after being chased by paparazzi in a tunnel in Paris.

The 57-year-old actor - who was among the guests at the Royal Wedding last May - warned that history could "repeat itself" if the ex-'Suits' star continues to be "pursued and vilified" in the same way the prince's late mother, Princess Diana, was until her death in a Paris auto crash in 1997.

The Duchess of Sussex had written to beg her father Thomas Markle, 74, to stop "victimizing" her and speaking to the press after she married Prince Harry last May.

Clooney told reporters at a Television Critics Association conference in Pasadena, California that Meghan is "a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it's history repeating itself".

Clooney made the comments while in Australia promoting his new Hulu series Catch-22 and after being asked whether he expects to be named godfather to Markle's baby, due in April. "The impact it was having on her that we would then see and feel was very hard to understand", William said in the documentary.

"I do want to say, I just saw this piece", he said.

It looks like the nasty feud between Meghan Markle and her father Thomas Markle will not be over anytime soon.

He published the personal correspondence from his daughter, in which she pleaded with him to stop talking to the press.

"She'd really just be so proud", she said at the time.

The pair's relationship is now at breaking point after Meghan claimed in the letter that Thomas has not contacted her, despite him strongly denying this. You have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice not to tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. "She's getting a raw deal there, it's irresponsible".

"Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you are causing", the letter reads. "I'm sort of surprised by that".
