Michelle Obama’s text exchange with mom is so relatable

Michelle Obama's surprise appearance at the 61st Grammy Awards on Monday was among the most talked about parts of the ceremony.

As screenshots of the text exchange show, Ms Robinson asked her daughter: "Did you meet any of the real stars or did you run right after you were done".

Last night, Obama shared a amusing thread of text messages from her mother, in which the 81-year-old Marian Shields poked fun at her daughter's surprise appearance at the Grammys on Sunday night.

Robinson admitted in the conversation that she only saw the show "because Gracie called me" (despite Obama's claim to have reminded her).

"Did you watch it?!" Tonight in Phoenix, I shared this text thread from my mom from #Grammys night, and I just had to share it with all of you.

In the texts, her mother asks if she met "any of the real stars".

"No you did not", Robinson replied, joking, "I would have remembered that even though I don't remember much".

Her daughter evidently wasn't stung by the remark, joking, "I am a real star ... by the way".

Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Alicia Keys, Michelle Obama and Jennifer Lopez appear at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

I would think all Shields needs to know about Obama's celebrity status is that she is BFFs with Beyoncé. Music helps us share ourselves, our dignities and sorrows, our hopes and joys. She is one of the most genuine and thoughtful people I know-there's no one better to help us all celebrate the unifying power of music!
