No. 2 prospect Edwards stays in state, commits to Georgia

Anthony Edwards has committed to Georgia.

However, some of the other finalists that the decision of Anthony Edwards came down to today included Kentucky and the Florida State Seminoles. "I want to put the state school back on the basketball map".

Though he is joining the 39th ranked recruiting class for next year with two four-star talents in Carver High School's Combo Guard Jaykwon Walton and Chaminade-Madonna Prep's Small Forward Toumani Camara, the nation's best prospect is optimistic about Georgia's chances next year. He says one factor was Georgia's Tom Crean coached his two favorite players, Dwyane Wade at Marquette and Victor Oladipo at Indiana.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard named his final five schools back on December 28, with that list being the Kentucky Wildcats. The Bulldogs are 10-13 overall and 1-9 in the Southeastern Conference in Crean's first season as coach. "On my visit we watched film together, and he talks with so much energy".

Edwards cited Georgia coach Tom Crean's relationship with two National Basketball Association stars as a factor of why he picked UGA. "They came in not highly rated and they came out, Dwyane Wade a really good player has had a really good career so it weighed big on me".

"I went to a game and I felt the fans in the gym, everybody showing love, and I felt like I was home", he added.

Edwards lives approximately 90 minutes away from Georgia's campus and he admitted the opportunity of remaining close to his family while at college was very important to him.

Originally a 2020 prospect, Edwards reclassified to 2019 in November, which made his recruitment even more electrifying than the 26.7 points and 8.7 rebounds he posts each game this season.
