OnePlus 5G prototype to debut at Mobile World Congress

No, the company isn't launching the OnePlus 7 or the OnePlus 7T.

OnePlus has collaborated with European telecom carrier EE to be among the first brands to launch a 5G smartphone.

5G devices to shine at the Mobile World Congress 2019.

If you have the privilege of being able to attend the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC), you'll also have the chance to try out the full 5G experience with a prototype smartphone from OnePlus. OnePlus hasn't officially talked about the showcasing of the 5G phone, but the words noted in the media invite reveals hints at it. Last year, it was announced by the company during Qualcomm's event that OnePlus will be among the first smartphone manufacturers to launch a 5G-compatible smartphone. It is fully possible the company may showcase a 5G variant of the OnePlus 6T like how other manufacturers are doing now.

Naturally, the device will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and X50 modem, since 5G connection requires both. At CES 2019 in January, Samsung showed off its own 5G phone under glass.

Expect to see the OnePlus 5G phone used for gaming experiences which will show just what the low-latency of high-speed 5G could make possible on the go in the very near future.

OnePlus says that MWC visitors will be invited to "communicate with [their] community over a 5G network", though it's not clear what that entails.
