Jürgen Klopp: Liverpool back as European force

Jürgen Klopp: Liverpool back as European force

Georginio Wijnaldum echoed the words of Jürgen Klopp as he hailed a "really big step" for Liverpool after a momentous 3-1 win over Bayern Munich away from home.

The game sprang to life after the 20-minute mark and it was Liverpool that drew first blood when Mane expertly settled a Virgil van Dijk long ball, spun back to his right and chipped into an open net after Manuel Neuer was drawn off his goal line.

'It's massive, a big step for us, ' said Klopp. "We'll see what happens". We set a mark for LFC tonight that we are back on the worldwide landscape as a football club.

"A lot of teams struggle here to get a result, but we still did it". We didn't play our best but it's about getting a result.

"It is a hard place to come and not a lot of teams have on their cards an away win at Munich". They know it's a tough place to come. There were not too many hard situations in and around our box and that is a massive sign.

'I really think this club deserves to have awareness again. "We are back. There is no doubt we are back again".

A late booking for Andy Robertson means the full-back will miss the first leg of the quarter-final, which now has four English clubs.

Losing Hendo so early with a twisted ankle [was not good], hopefully, it's not too serious.
We wanted fresh legs, not to rest Fabinho but to bring in fresh legs.

"Tonight we played - especially the second half - as good as necessary and as possible".

Klopp has insisted he's happy at Anfield, where he is contracted until 2022. You have to try and impress the other team and we did that. "So young, so strong, already so mature. Bayern has so much quality, unbelievable, and we impressed them and that's a massive thing".
