Ex-Jets DT Mike Pennel joins Patriots

On top of Bruce Ellington, Maurice Harris and Terrence Brooks, the team has also signed defensive lineman Mike Pennel and tight end Matt LaCosse, this according to ESPN's Field Yates. The 26-year-old started five of the 15 games he played last season in Denver, where he set career highs with 24 catches and 250 receiving yards and scored his first touchdown.

Pennel is the second former Jet to be picked up by the Patriots Thursday.

LaCosse was in for a visit Thursday, while Pennel has been with the Jets the last two seasons.

Reports have indicated that LaCosse signed a two-year deal with New England worth just less than $5 million where he joins a depth chart led by Rob Gronkowski and no other experienced options.

Pennel, 27, had 27 tackles with a pass defended last season with the Jets. He checks in at 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds.

The Patriots have been active on the second official day of National Football League free agency, and they have added a former Jet in an attempt to bolster their defensive line.
