James Gunn Reportedly Rehired As Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Director

James Gunn Reportedly Rehired As Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Director

Shockingly, Disney has changed its tune about Gunn, according to Deadline.

Months after being fired over old tweets, James Gunn has been rehired as director of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3".

Gunn directed the first two Guardians films as well as co-writing 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and writing 2017's Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

That is a *major* reveal embedded in the report about Gunn coming back into the Marvel Studios; on a technical level, it kind of invalidates the entire headline that Gunn has been "rehired" for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, as it actually sounds like he was never actually fully let go, based on the above description!

The 51-year-old film-maker, who had been behind both previous instalments of the Marvel franchise, came under fire when old tweets resurfaced that made light of 9/11, rape and paedophilia. After a controversy grew, Gunn apologized - and was sacked anyway. At the time, Gunn had publicly apologized for the tweets saying he "regretted them for many years since.' The 'Guardians" cast released an open letter later that month in full support of Gunn. "To be honest with you I don't know if I want to work for Disney", he said to Jonathan Ross at the time. "I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger". Gunn will now reportedly film "Guardians" after he finishes the sequel film. "Love you to you all".

According to the site, Walt Disney Studios preisdent Alan Horn had met with Gunn on numerous occasions to discuss the situation following his firing, and having been persuaded by Gunn's public apology and his handling of the situation the decision has now been made to bring him back into the Guardians fold.

"For the record, when I made these shocking jokes, I wasn't living them out". "At the end of the day, he was making jokes and he was being provocative and he was looking for that shock value, but they were just jokes".
