Palestinian dies two weeks after shot in Gaza clashes: ministry

On Sunday, Israeli jets launch two air attacks in the Gaza Strip, soon after a rocket fire from the Palestinian territory, according to the military.

At the same time, the Palestinian Authority (PA) - led by Mahmoud Abbas - has imposed punitive measures on the Strip as part of the ongoing feud between his Fatah party and Hamas.

Mousa Mohammed Mousa, 23, was injured on March 1 in clashes along the border, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement.

Egypt, the United Nations and Qatar have been mediating between Israel and Palestinian factions, including Hamas movement, to achieve calm on the border between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel.

For almost a year, protesters have been gathering along the frontier in often violent protests calling for Palestinian refugees and their descendants to be allowed to return to former homes now inside Israel.

The latest quarrel between the leaders of Turkey and Israel continued for a second day Wednesday as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan labeled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "thief" and a "tyrant".

Israel says it has no choice but to use deadly force at the protests to defend the frontier from militants trying to destroy the barrier and infiltrate.

Tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians near the Gaza border have been mounting since last March, which marked the beginning of the Great March of Return. But its tactics against the protests have drawn global condemnation.

"Israel is not a state of all its citizens", Netanyahu wrote in response to comments from an Israeli actress.

CAMERA's Israel office yesterday prompted correction of a Reuters article which had overstated the percentage of Gaza Strip residents who are 1948 refugees or their descendants.

Qatar stepped in after many in the worldwide community did not fulfil their pledges to rebuild the Gaza Strip after it was hit by Israel in three major offensives; 2008, 2012 and 2014 wars.
