Tottenham Hotspur to make loan bid for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale?

Former club chief Ramon Calderon revealed to Love Sport Radio that president Florentino Perez preferred Mourinho, but pressure from the senior leaders in the Madrid locker room, including captain Sergio Ramos, swayed him towards Zidane.

Having sacked Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari for a series of embarrassing results, Real have made a decision to turn again to the former midfield great who won an unprecedented three Champions League titles in a row before resigning last May. The team has fallen into crisis since he left in May after winning an unprecedented third straight Champions League.

Real, however, opted for Zidane, who won three Champions League trophies and a Liga title in his two-and-a-half-year spell at the Bernabeu. Following Zinedine Zidane's decision to come back to the club, it essentially ends any hope the Colombian worldwide had of getting a second chance with Los Blancos.

Asked by El Chiringuito about Real's decision, Mourinho said: "It seems ideal to me".

"He says what nobody dares, he blames the referees, the press, [he says] that which is not normally said".

"I think Jose Mourinho would have been a step backwards, there was a lot of problems and controversy when he was here".

"Gareth wanted to play one way and Zidane wanted him to play another", Barnett told BBC's Football Daily podcast.
