"When you're playing, you start to get fixated with what's coming, or if you're playing well in this Six Nations you put yourself in the window for the World Cup".

"I'm really disappointed by the start of the game, obviously it was a bit better at the end, we showed a different face but we spent too much time defending", France head coach Jacques Brunel told a news conference.

Best, speaking to Virgin Media Ireland, added: "On the one hand it is disappointing I will never play in another one (a Six Nations home game) but on the other what a way to go out, putting 26 points over a good French side".

Ireland dominated the territorial battle and enjoyed 81% possession in a first half in which the hosts scored three tries and spurned several more good opportunities.

"To keep that pressure on for that full 40-minutes really spoke volumes about the intensity and about the energy we brought to our game, and also the cohesion".

"But the way we controlled the game we will be happy".

"We weren't expecting to get as many line-outs as we did and a few things came off and a few didn't".

"I think we just wanted to go out and attack today, whether we had the ball or not".

Ireland skipper Rory Best looked forward to a monumental clash with Wales in his final Six Nations match after Sunday's morale-boosting defeat of France in Dublin.

Victory gave reigning champions Ireland an outside chance of winning the title in next weekend's final round of matches, although they will both need to beat Grand Slam chasing Wales in Cardiff and then see England slip-up against Scotland at Twickenham if they are to complete a successful defence.

'That was a lot closer to how we want to be known and how we want to play, ' said Best, who will retire after the World Cup.
