Saints Signing Malcolm Brown

Saints Signing Malcolm Brown

The New Orleans Saints are beefing up their defensive line, as they've signed former New England Patriots defensive tackle Malcom Brown to a three-year, $15 million deal.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the signing, and Nick Underhill of the Advocate confirmed it.

The New Orleans Saints are clearly focusing on their need to add more defensive help for the 2019 season by adding some run-stopping support with defensive tackle Malcolm Brown. Originally selected by the Patriots in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Texas, Brown has posted 186 tackles (103 solo), 8.5 sacks, a forced fumble and three fumble recoveries in 60 regular season games played with 51 starts.

New England declined to pick up the 5th year team option from his rookie contract last offseason, leading him into free agency this year.

In fairness to Brown, he also had pretty Herculean shoes to fill when he arrived with the team: Vince Wilfork had just departed for the Houston Texans one month before Brown arrived, signaling a true changing of the guard at the nose tackle position.

Maybe he'll have better luck in the Big Easy.
