Cowboys overspend for name value with WR Randall Cobb

When Cobb took the field in the Packers' season opener in 2011, he became the first player born in the 1990s to play an National Football League game.

Cobb is no longer that player but he remains explosive and versatile. With experience in the Packers offense playing with arguably the greatest improviser we've ever seen in Aaron Rodgers, Cobb would be able to help Dak Prescott down the field when he breaks the pocket and the play is off schedule.

In a NFC Wild Card Game against the New York Giants in 2016, Cobb hauled in a 42-yard touchdown off a Hail Mary before halftime in the Packers' eventual 38-17 victory.

If you think signing soon-to-be 37-year-old Jason Witten from the Monday Night Football booth means the Cowboys' issues at tight end are totally fixed, then that's some extremely wishful thinking. His 91-catch, 1,287-yard season with 12 touchdowns came in 2014. Despite appearing in only one more game, Cobb's actually caught four more passes a season on his second contract then he did on his first. A hamstring injury limited Cobb to nine games past year.

So far in free agency, the Cowboys have brought in veteran slot receiver Randall Cobb and have had a meeting with free agent safety Eric Berry. "I've enjoyed playing with him", Cobb said at the time.

He also has return ability for punts and kickoffs.

Despite the fact that I hate the Packers with every part of my body, Randall Cobb seems like one hell of a dude. The Packers played the opener that year as Super Bowl champs, meaning Cobb had just missed out on a championship.
