Former Vikings backup quarterback Trevor Siemian to sign with Jets

The Vikings will be in need of a backup quarterback behind starter Kirk Cousins if they don't re-sign Trevor Siemian, who is testing the free agent market.

A person with direct knowledge of the contract says it is worth $2 million, with a maximum value of $3 million with incentives.

In 2016 Siemian got the call - and some said the unenviable task - of following up the retired Manning as the Broncos' opening-day starter. The 27-year-old spent 2018 with the Minnesota Vikings - but did not appear in a game last season.

Siemian, 27, agreed to a one-year deal with NY on Wednesday during a free-agent visit, according to his agency, leaving the Vikings in the market for a backup quarterback. The former Northwestern quarterback earned a Super Bowl ring as a backup for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

McCown, who turns 40 on July 4, wrote in a statement last week released by agent Mike McCartney that he still has a strong desire to play football but wanted to spend time with his family to determine if he would want to continue playing this season.

The Jets, coming off their third straight last-place finish in the AFC East, also have quarterback Davis Webb on their roster.
