Qualcomm launches QCS400 chipsets to power next generation of smart speakers

Qualcomm has just announced major news in the past couple of hours. But Qualcomm's QCS400 improves the stability of a smart speaker's network connection and thus boost the accuracy of voice control. "Qualcomm Technologies helps to meet these needs with our new SoCs, which are unique and comprehensively integrated to combine enhanced compute, AI acceleration, and low-latency audio distribution in a single chipset". Neither of these chips will have the AI Engine and that's present only in the QCS405 and QCS407 SoC, which are designed for soundbars and AV receivers respectively. Dolby Atmos helps to bring consumers inside the story and action as the sounds of people, places, things, and music come alive. "Through this close working relationship, we are expanding the availability of best in class audio experiences".

In a press briefing held in San Diego, Qualcomm announced its next-generation system-on-a-chip (SoC) that will make smart speakers even smarter.

With these new SoCs, Qualcomm Technologies is helping people enjoy great voice and audio, virtually everywhere. And improved power efficiency of mains-powered speakers and extended battery life of portable speakers is also on the cards, too.

Smarter and more immersive sound quality - support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for a cinema-like experience. They include a high performance processor, Qualcomm's AI Engine, smart audio tech, the ability to also handle visuals, and power optimization to reduce the overall power required by these always-on speakers. The SoCs are also created to support multi-keyword detection and with on-device AI, smart devices powered by them can get better and respond faster to wake-words. Developers have the freedom to choose the cloud-based voice assistant that best suits their product vision. The more low-cost QCS403 and QCS404 are designed for integration into smart speakers and assistants as they offer quad-core CPUs clocked at 1.4Ghz with support for Zigbee protocol and Bluetooth 5.1.
