Vikings sign WR Adam Thielen to extension

The 28-year-old began last season with eight straight games of at least 100 yards receiving, but Thielen's production dipped in the second half of the season.

The Vikings and Adam Thielen have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Friday, locking up yet another key piece well into the 2020s.

As far as specifics are concerned, $35 million that is guaranteed. He now has long-term stability with a much bigger paycheck.

An undrafted free-agent signing out of Minnesota State in 2013, Thielen has risen from the practice squad to special teams to one of the NFL's most sure-handed receivers.

To say that Thielen has earned the extension is an understatement. The Minnesota native was named to consecutive Pro Bowls in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He barely missed the mark in 2016 when he totaled 967 yards receiving.

The receiver finished with 1,373 yards and nine touchdowns was set to make $7.1 million in 2019.

Though Thielen's existing deal - which made him the NFL's 30th-highest paid receiver, in terms of average annual value - ran through the 2020 season, it had become obvious the receiver was due for a raise.

In 2018, Thielen ranked eighth among National Football League wide receivers with 1,373 receiving yards.
