Chanting 'death to Israel,' Iranians rally against USA blacklisting of Guard

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has written a letter to UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres to complain about Washington's decision designating the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as a "terrorist" organization.

Following Trump's declaration on Monday, Iran reciprocated by designating the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the portion of the US military responsible for protecting American security interests in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, as a terrorist organisation.

U.S. wrong decisions have caused Iranian nation stand more united and develop a consensus over anti-US policies, he said, noting that USA recent decision has promoted public support to IRGC.

He asked Pompeo if the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force, which allowed for United States troops to fight entities responsible for the 9/11 terror attacks and associated forces, included Iran.

"The provocative move will raise tensions to an uncontrollable level and increase threats in the region", he said, adding that the Revolutionary Guard is at the forefront in fighting terrorism and extremism.

The US terrorist designation of IRGC has sparked wide condemnation in Iran, and a number of other countries.

It was the first time that Washington has branded part of a foreign government a terrorist group, meaning that anyone who deals with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps could face prison in the United States.

The Guards' overseas Quds forces have fought Iran's proxy wars in the strife-toen region.
