Everyone is human: Ganguly on Dhoni's on-field argument with umpires

Black Caps all-rounder Mitchell Santner has hit a last-ball six to drag his Chennai Super Kings to victory over the Rajasthan Royals in one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Dhoni was docked only 50 percent of his match fees for entering the field of play to confront Gandhe for backtracking on a waist high no-ball.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly defended Mahendra Singh Dhoni's on-field confrontation with umpires during an IPL game, saying "everyone is human".

After the match, which Chennai won by four wickets, Dhoni had admitted of breaching the Level 2 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL's Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

Stokes, who was bowling the final over, delivered a full toss to Mitchell Santner which was declared a no-ball by umpire Ulhas Gandhe before being overruled by his colleague and square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford following which Dhoni walked in and lost his cool.

"MS was after some clarity and it didn't seem to be coming, so he took the opportunity to go out and discuss with the umpires".

"He was certainly fired up the way the decision was handled and why it was overturned". This gave rise to an altercation between Jadeja and the umpires.

The whole incident didn't please the former England skipper Michael Vaughan.

"Cricket was never meant to "look" ugly-never mind if laws of the game are not trespassed-but certain "behavioural" patterns are tantamount to bringing disrepute to game". No place at all for a Captain to storm onto the pitch from the Dugout.!

However, Chennai were given a massive helping hand after some inexplicable errors from Stokes, who took Royals bowling duties at the death.

The IPL has continued to garner a larger audience with 345 million viewers in India tuning in over the first two weeks, a 14 per cent increase from previous year for the same period, broadcasters STAR Network said.
